Oil reaches Louisiana shores - The Big Picture
I am generally not a violent individual, but on my way to work this morning I caught myself daydreaming about what I would do if I was given 10 minutes alone with Lamar McKay or any of the other top BP (or Halliburton or Transocean) brass to which we have all had the displeasure of becoming acquainted over the last month.
And all this was before I came across boston.com’s photoset chronicling the devastation that has taken place over the last week as the oil that has been gushing almost completely unfettered into the Gulf of Mexico has started to embed itself in Louisiana’s coastline. I still stand by my opinion that, although we may never have more ammo to do so, we need to refrain from attacking the oil industry or politicizing this catastrophe so as not to add extra layers of discourse to an already complex situation. But something needs to be done now, whether it comes in the form of a large, multinational corporation putting the environment ahead of profits or in the form of our federal government finally addressing a disaster in the Gulf Coast region of this country with even a shred of urgency.
